Motivating Yourself for Marketing

John Magryta

Health Insurance Agent, NASE

Marketing is a direct reflection of your Business goals and Income goals. Motivation is tied directly to reaching these goals and, in many cases, your Lifestyle! Brian Tracy defines a salesperson as working ONLY when they are face to face with a prospect.

But how do we “fill the funnel” with prospects so we can be in front of people and reaching our goals? The 80/20 rule says that initially 80% of your time should be spent filling this funnel and seeing clients.

Ideally you are doing THREE to FIVE different types of marketing in areas that you enjoy working around. Some ideas are:

  • Mailing campaigns
  • E-mail marketing
  • Web site optimization (driving traffic to your Web site)
  • “Leave Behinds” (brochures and flyers)
  • Radio, TV ads
  • Billboards
  • Seminars
  • Sponsorships (Youth sports programs)
  • Networking mentality

5 Keys to Successful Marketing Programs

  1. Schedule weekly marketing activities and reward yourself when accomplished!
  2. Make them fun activities for you…open houses, seminars, creative graphics…work with groups you relate to.
  3. Team up with another person or group to combine efforts and to keep on track.
  4. Always be Networking….i.e., listening and noting others needs and wants.
  5. Be consistent…you don’t know when a person will need your services, but when they do, you want your name and contact information in front of them!

Avoid activities that drain you both mentally and financially. There are plenty of free or low cost marketing activities that we can pursue. I used to team up with a colleague when I first started in the insurance world and every Saturday we would go around to businesses, introducing ourselves and leaving behind our contact information. Three years later I received a phone call from this effort. That call helped fill my funnel without effort! This type of networking leads to future business by simply introducing myself and having fun doing so!

Purpose

To help the entrepreneur develop a marketing program that is fun, effective and sustainable such that it helps reach their goal for the year. Networking is the most direct and usually effective type of marketing and is fun!

Benefits

Marketing is a “behind the scenes” activity but is necessary for business and income success. This success will lead to your ideal lifestyle, and THAT is motivating!
