The Business Card Binder

Ron Lavier

Handy Man for Hire

1 | 2

Every new member of BNI receives a small brown business card binder designed to conveniently hold multiple copies of business cards for every member of your BNI chapter. This is one of your most important networking tools, so don’t leave it on the shelf.

  • Keep it filled with up-to-date versions of your referral partner’s business cards.
  • Take it with you everywhere you go.

The Business Card Binder will help you generate more referrals. How?

  1. It activates the power of attraction: Having the binder with you is a silent reminder that you have an intention to find referrals for your business networking partners. Setting a clear intention is the first step to attracting referrals. Mysteriously, what you are looking for often unexpectedly appears.
  2. It activates your memory: Sometimes the visual of looking at a business card will help you remember the key content of all those member commercials you have been hearing week after week. You may find yourself more quickly identifying the need of a potential client, and stating the value of your networking partner.
  3. It raises your own value and credibility in the eyes of your client: There’s a power that comes with being able to respond to a client need with a great solution—the name and contact information for a business professional you know, like and trust, who is qualified to meet your client’s need. “Well networked” professionals tend to be highly respected.
  4. It empowers the client to help make the connection: By giving the potential client a business card, you are giving that person the ability to initiate the contact. At the same time, you will contact your fellow BNI member so that the connection can happen from both directions. This makes the referral twice as certain of success.

As I was working on a client’s deck the other day, it became apparent that one of the trees in his yard was in bad need of pruning. A good pruning job would actually bring out the beauty of the new deck. I don’t do trees. However, I had the card of an arborist in my business card binder. The client ended up using the arborist and was so happy he referred the arborist to another friend. There are two business opportunities that were I created with the help of my business card binder. The string of referrals that began that day is likely still growing.
