What Does ‘Givers Gain’ Mean?

Let’s begin by looking at the meaning of the words, “Giver’s Gain”.
Give
-verb (used with object)
- to present voluntarily and without expecting compensation; bestow: to give a birthday present to someone.
–verb (used without object)
- to be warm and open in relationships with other persons: a withdrawn person who doesn't know how to give.
“GIVER’S GAIN”: The networking concept which has been proven successful by BNI.
- What is it?
- How does it work?
- Okay Then What?
1. What is it?
- It is not: “give so I can gain”, “once I gain then I will give”, “give and then wait to gain”, “you owe me”
- It is an attitude and an action.
- The attitude needs to be, give without the thought ‘what will I get back’.
“Giver’s Gain” is a simple concept but difficult to apply. “It is more blessed to give than receive.”
- There are three objects involved in the action:
- The Giver
- The Recipient
- The Thing Given
2. How does it work?
You may be thinking “That is a nice thought but what if I give and nobody gives to me?”
I like this quote from Norman Vincent Peale – author of “The Power of Positive Thinking”: “When you become detached mentally from yourself and concentrate on helping other people with their difficulties, you will be able to cope with your own more effectively. Somehow, the act of self-giving is a personal power-releasing factor.”
And from Dr. Ivan Misner: “If I give you business you’ll give me business and we’ll both benefit as a result”
3. Okay Then What?

Bible Proverb (Proverbs 11: 24-25): One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
Chinese Proverb: The wise man does not lay up treasures. The more he gives, the more he has.
